Stanley Cup Odds Update

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Breeders cup betting enthusiasts, are already beginning to wonder if they should make a wager on the future Stanley Cup Champion, after slow starts to both the Boston Bruins and runners up Vancouver Canucks. With 77 games left in the regular season going into tonight’s action, bookie software agents aren’t ready just yet to change the odds on some teams Stanley Cup chance. Nevertheless, today we will be looking at a few teams whose stock has risen in the first two weeks of the NHL season.

Colorado Avalanche – The Avalanche have gotten out to a quick start, as they enter tonight’s action in second place in the Western Conference, with a five and one record. Colorado’s youth and speed and improved goaltending has all been on display in the early going of the 2011 – 12 season. As a result, many sportsbooks are already boosting the Avalanches odds to win the Cup. When the season opened, the Avalanche were a 70 to one underdog, but now they sit at 45 to one. With Calgary and Vancouver and Edmonton all struggling early, the youthful Mile High City team will need to continue their strong play if they hope to qualify for the playoffs.

Toronto Maple Leafs – At 30 to one odds, the Toronto Maple Leafs enter tonight’s action with one of the biggest rises in Stanley Cup futures odds. The Leafs under the guidance of goalie James Reimer, have collected nine of a possible 10 points this season. Toronto has shown that despite slow starts in all five games, they are never out of any game, as they are four zero and one. With an upcoming road stretch that starts out with the Stanley Cup champion Bruins tonight, Toronto has a huge opportunity to show and fans and critics alike, that the playoff drought ends this season.

NHL 2011-2012 Preview: Stanley Cup Underdogs

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

The NHL free agency period that started on July 1 was one of the more exciting ones in recent memory. The New York Rangers won the services of center Brad Richards, but it is difficult to call the Rangers a Stanley Cup contender just yet. But sports betting fans love to talk about the championship underdogs, so here are some of the Stanley Cup underdogs to watch for 2011-2012.

Buffalo Sabres (Stanley Cup Odds: 25 to 1)

The Sabres made some significant pickups on defense in the free agency period when they signed Robyn Regher and Christian Ehrhoff. But observers are wondering what kind of performance the Sabres will get out of goaltender Ryan Miller. Last year was an off year for the all-star goaltender, but an improved defense may make the Sabres a Stanley Cup contender.

New Jersey Devils (Stanley Cup Odds: 30 to 1)

Online casino hockey fans only remember the start that the Devils had to the 2010-2011 season. By the time the Devils brought back Jacques Lemaire as head coach in December 2010, the playoffs were way out of reach. But the Devils were one of the best teams in the NHL after December, and the right coach could take this underdog to the Stanley Cup finals.

Los Angeles Kings (Stanley Cup Odds: 16 to 1)

The addition of former Philadelphia Flyers captain Mike Richards to an already potent Los Angeles Kings offense brought the Kings a few more points in the Stanley Cup odds. But the Kings are still underdogs that are ready to give the rest of the league a few surprises when the 2011-2012 season gets into the playoffs.

Stanley Cup Update

Monday, June 13th, 2011

With only three games left in the Belmont betting Stanley Cup finals for the 2010 – 11 seasons, fans from across the world are wondering which team will have the momentum after game five tonight. From a series that started with literally no emotion whatsoever, to two teams that literally despise each other; hockey fans have seen it all in the Stanley Cup Finals, between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins. Game five shifts back over to Vancouver tonight, and many sports betting enthusiasts, we included believe the winner of tonight’s game, should go on to win the Stanley Cup in either game six on Monday or game seven next Wednesday.

In need of a momentum shift after dropping the first two games in Vancouver, the Nathan Horton blindside injury, was certainly not what the Bruins expected would wake them up and get them back in the series. For those new to the situation, Nathan Horton was absolutely destroyed by a fierce open ice body check by Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome during the first period of game three. As a result of the hit, Horton will miss the rest of the series due to injury, and Rome due to suspension.

Also stemming from the hit, is a resurgent Boston Bruins team that proceeded to use the hit as motivation en route to lighting up the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 12 to one over games three and four in Boston. What’s more, the media has shifted its attention from bashing the Boston Bruins for a lack of intensity and urgency in games one and two in Vancouver, to criticizing Vancouver for showing little to no fight in games three and four in Boston.

On paper, game five becomes the biggest of the series, because the home team has won every game in this series. If Boston can win on the road, they will literally have all of the momentum, going into game six in Boston on Monday.

Stanley Cup Odds Update

Stanley CupWith only four teams remaining in the NHL playoffs for the 2010 -11 seasons, Preakness betting enthusiasts don’t have a lot of options to choose a Stanley Cup winner from. To say that this season’s betting online NHL playoffs have been incredible would be putting it lightly. We’d actually like to go on record stating, that the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks, are all the most deserving teams of making it to the Conference finals. Here is an updated version of the Stanley Cup Odds for 2010 – 11 seasons.

And then there were four, this year’s final four entrants in NHL Conference Finals, can all be considered as scary teams. In the Western Conference, the top ranked Vancouver Canucks, whom also won the President’s Trophy as the NHL’s best regular season team, remain the odds on cup favorites at – 150.  Made up of a core including the Sedin twins, Ryan Kesler, Alex Burrows, Kevin Bieksa, Christian Ehrhoff, Dan Hamhuis and Roberto Luongo, the 2010 -11 Vancouver Canucks may be the deepest in the team’s 40 year history.

Meeting the Canucks in the Western Conference finals is the San Jose Sharks. With odds of  anywhere between – 300 and – 800 depending on which sportsbook you use, the Sharks similar to the Canucks look to be the best edition of themselves in their team’s history. Let’s face it, when Joe Pavelski and Danny Heatley are on your third line, you just know your team is ridiculously stacked. This series has all the makings of being an amazing one, and fans should expect the Stanley Cup winner to come from the West again this season.

Over in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins will be taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Despite San Jose having a better record than both Boston and Tampa during the regular season, both the Bruins and Lightning boast better Stanley Cup odds. The Boston Bruins are a – 250 favorite to win the cup, while the Tampa Bay Lightning are exactly – 300. For the latter of the two teams, the odds completely contradict Lightning Head Coach Guy Boucher, who claims his team is an underdog at best to win the Stanley Cup.

Stanley Cup Underdog Picks

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Stanley CupThe 2010 – 11 Stanley Cup sports betting playoffs got underway earlier this week. With 16 teams remaining in the betting online playoffs, it is that time of year again to look at the underdogs. Today we look at several matchups in which we believe the underdog will prevail.

Phoenix Coyotes v Detroit Red Wings – To say that the Phoenix Coyotes are an underdog not only in this particular series but in the NHL as a whole would be putting it lightly. Despite putting together the sixth best record in the Western Conference for 97 points, the Coyotes are a +220 dog in the series. However, we feel this year, could be the year that they can beat the Detroit Red Wings. Consider that last season the Coyotes took the Red Wings to seven games, and then went two wins, no losses and two overtime losses during the regular season this year, and we feel the Coyotes could make a run. Phoenix is that type of team that plays good defensive hockey and has a nice mix of young and veteran players. With Ilya Bryzgalov putting in another strong campaign, look for the Coyotes to win this series in six. And perhaps make a run to the Western Conference finals.

Buffalo Sabres v Philadelphia Flyers – If any team can go on a run in these playoffs, we feel comfortable taking the Buffalo Sabres. To start the season, the Sabres found themselves in the basement of the NHL before playing out of their minds from the middle of November on wards. Last night, Sabres goalie Ryan Miller proved why he won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goalie last season, as he stifled the Philadelphia Flyers. Given that the Sabres have been in playoff mode since mid November and the Flyers goaltending woes, it seems like a no brainer as to pick the Sabres for this series. What’s more, the Sabres are only an underdog, because they are ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference. However, similar to the Flyers from a year ago as the seventh seed, look for Buffalo to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Stanley Cup Odds Update

lj-smithThe 2011 March Madness betting tournament is coming to a close, and for NHL handicappers, that can only mean that the playoffs are right around the corner. With only five games left in the regular sports betting NHL season, here is an updated look at some of the teams favored to take a run at Lord Stanley’s Mug.

After winning their first ever President’s Trophy as the NHL’s best team, the Vancouver Canucks are literally every sportsbooks consensus pick to win the Stanley Cup. Vancouver has the best odds in the NHL at four to one to win it all. In years past, we would have told you that this is a risky wager at four to one, not only because you can’t make that much of a profit, but also because Vancouver has failed to live up to expectations for several years. However, this year, the Canucks appear to be hitting their stride, as they have been on a role of late.

What’s more, after veteran center Manny Malholtra suffered a season ending eye injury, the media has shifted its attention to him rather than the team. Meaning to say, the Canucks have some extra motivation to win the Stanley Cup. Further, the Canucks finally have depth all the way through their lineup, and with the playoffs being as grueling as they are, this could be the best Canucks team to compete for a Stanley Cup title.

Over in the Eastern Conference, the Washington Capitals appear to be out of a funk, and now are tied with Philadelphia for the best odds in the conference to lift the Stanley Cup above their heads. Both teams share odds of six to one at winning the Stanley Cup. The Washington Capitals similar to the Vancouver Canucks are a team that has had much regular season success but failed to live up to expectations in the playoffs. Yet this season also comparable to Vancouver, the Capitals appear to have a team built for the playoffs, with enough depth to last them until June.

Stanley Cup Preview

Friday, February 11th, 2011

The 2010-11 NHL sports betting regular season has reached its half way point, and handicappers around the league are beginning to speculate as to which two teams will be battling for the Stanley Cup come June. With the NFL wrapping up this past weekend, and the MLB only a month away, online betting fans are turning their attention to the coolest game on earth. Here is our preview of the two teams we believe will be battling for Lord Stanley’s mug come June.

This year’s Stanley Cup final will be played against two teams that have been more closely associated with choking than with success. Heading into the season, the Washington Capitals and San Jose Sharks, were teams that dominated the rest of the NHL throughout the regular season, yet when the playoffs came around, both teams appeared to lack the mental toughness it takes to win a championship.

However, in 2010-11, both the Capitals and Sharks have been marred by adversity, and really haven’t played up to their regular season potential. The Capitals in fact went on an eight game losing streak, the longest streak they’ve had since before Head Coach Bruce Boudreau took over two seasons ago. Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks have been playing far below their high standards, as they are currently battling for the final three playoff spots. For the Sharks, the only thing keeping them afloat is the fact that the Western Conference playoff race separates the third place team from the 11 th by six points.

The average regular season play for both these clubs could be the best thing to happen to them and their fan bases. On the one hand, both teams have the risk of missing the playoffs for the first time in a few years. Yet on the other hand, the regular season adversity could make both teams tougher to play against in the playoffs, as they finally get over the hump and make it to the Stanley Cup final.

2010-2011 Stanley Cup Finals Prediction

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

imagesCollege football betting players are gearing up for their season to start, but on the ice, NHL betting players still have a ways to go before the campaign begins for the 2010-11 season. Here’s an early look at how the season may shake out and some interesting hockey betting news.

Eastern Conference
Seventh-seeded Philadelphia came out of the East last year, but that won’t happen again. Washington and Pittsburgh ran into a hot Montreal team in the playoffs, and one of those teams will represent the East in the Cup finals this year. The Capitals will be out to prove they’re not the East version of the Sharks, while we think Sindey Crosby and a few other Penguins were tired from the Olympics (although that’s no excuse). If we had to choose, we’d take Pittsburgh’s goaltending.

Western Conference
Never again should anyone bet on San Jose….ever. The West will be fought between Chicago, who lost a few players from their Cup-winning team, and Vancouver, who need to add a second line to their team. But don’t count out a resurgent Detroit, who were arguably the best team in the league over the second half of the regular season.

Stanley Cup
We think Pittsburgh and Detroit will meet in the Cup final for the third time in four seasons, as the Red Wings have experience, and Jimmy Howard will be sharper in goal. The Red Wings will win this last Stanley Cup, ending this Nicklas Lidstrom-led dynasty, and it wouldn’t be surprising if you could get great sports betting odds for them at the start of the year.

Profile Stanley Cup Trophy

Friday, June 25th, 2010

stanley-cupCreated in 1893, by Lord Stanley of Preston, the Stanley Cup Trophy has become the most difficult prize to win in all of sports. Fans betting on the prize have experienced many highs and lows ever since the first trophy holders, the Montreal Hockey Club, won the Stanley Cup in 1894. In the early years of the Cups establishment, it was easier for fans breeders cup betting, to wager on which team would win the cup as there were fewer teams to choose from. Presently, the Stanley Cup is vied for by 30 teams, making it much more difficult to accurately wager on which club will win the trophy.

Although the Stanley Cup was officially created in 1893, the idea for a hockey trophy was thought of a year earlier by Lord Stanley, as along with his family, they fell in love with the game of hockey in 1889 after attending a winter festival in Montreal. Stanley believed that a championship cup trophy should be played for annually, with the top team having the honour of having their team name, player’s names and ownership engraved on the trophy.

Some of the traditions regarding the Stanley Cup, along with engraving ones name on it after winning, also include the championship being playing in a series in the beginning of June, as well as the winning team being allotted 100 days to keep the Cup. As noted above the winning club has their names engraved on the cup to prove that they were the champions of the specific year they won. Secondly, the Stanley Cup is awarded to the winning team in the beginning of June after two month playoff tournament, between the top 16 teams in the league who qualified after the regular season. Thirdly, after the Stanley Cup is won, players from the winning team are given 100 days to hold onto the trophy and display it to family and friends in their hometowns. After the 100 days are up, the following season begins with the defending Stanley Cup champions competing against the other teams for another chance to win the most prestigious trophy.
